Request for Qualifications (RFQ): Development & Communications Contractor
Organization: United Way of Eagle River Valley
Location: Eagle County, Colorado
Contract Type: Independent Contractor
Estimated Level of Effort: Approximately 10–15 hours per week, on average. Actual workload may vary based on organizational needs.
Anticipated Compensation: $30–$45 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
About United Way of Eagle River Valley
United Way of Eagle River Valley is seeking an independent contractor to provide development, communications, and related administrative support services. United Way is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Eagle County since 1996. Through partnerships and community leadership, United Way works to improve education, health, and financial stability across the region.
The selected contractor will collaborate with the Board Chair and Board of Directors to support fundraising, donor engagement, communications, and related administrative projects that help strengthen the organization’s impact and visibility. Current fundraising goals are modest, with a long-term strategy of building organizational capacity and securing sustainable leadership.
United Way intentionally operates with minimal administrative overhead so that as much funding as possible can be invested in local nonprofit partners serving our community.
Scope of Services
Development Support
- Provide support for donor stewardship activities and communications.
- Maintain accurate donor and prospect information within Salesforce or other CRM systems.
- Prepare donor acknowledgments, thank-you correspondence, and other fundraising communications.
- Support fundraising campaigns and donor outreach initiatives.
- Track fundraising activities and assist with reporting.
- Support implementation of fundraising strategies identified by the Board of Directors.
Communications
- Develop and schedule newsletters, website updates, and social media content.
- Assist with creating marketing and outreach materials.
- Collect and organize stories and impact information that highlight United Way’s work.
- Maintain communications calendars and coordinate distribution of outreach materials.
Administrative & Project Support
- Provide administrative support for development and communications initiatives.
- Prepare meeting materials, agendas, presentations, and documentation as requested.
- Maintain organized electronic records, project files, and organizational documents.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of meetings, outreach activities, and communications related to fundraising and community engagement.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, administration, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva or similar design platforms, and basic website management.
- Experience using Salesforce or another CRM/database system preferred.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms and social media management.
- Strong preference for contractors with knowledge of or connections to Eagle County, including Vail, Avon, Edwards, Eagle, Gypsum, Basalt, El Jebel, and surrounding communities.

Contract Information
This is an independent contractor opportunity. The contractor will determine the methods and manner of performing the agreed-upon services while coordinating with United Way regarding project priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
The contractor may be invited to attend meetings, events, or community activities in Eagle County as appropriate to support contracted services.
Anticipated hourly rate: $30–$45, depending on qualifications and experience.
Contractor is responsible for maintaining any required business licenses, insurance, and tax obligations applicable to independent contractors.
Additional contract work may be considered based on organizational needs and contractor performance.
